Stories

One more thing about this photo.  The "F Sisters" consisted of Hillary Clapp, Karen Kinney, Carol Leonard Anderson, and June Gross Dill.  Eveyone can probably guess what the "F" stood for.  We came up with the "club" at the wedding of June Gross, at which Karen, Hillary, and I were bridesmaids.  If you look closely, John Dill, Blake Hambrick, unknown, and Jim Wood are also wearing hats with the letters MP on them.  This stood for "Moth Patrol."  They battled the moths in the girls' dorm and their theme song was sung to the tune of the theme from "Star Wars."

This might have also been the summer that Randy Yackle threw one of Marguerite's pork chops up to the ceiling of the dining hall where it stuck firmly until after the summer was over.

As I recall, Thom Hill was living with Lenny and me, and arrived in camp with more than one CASE of 1/2 gallon bottles of Johnny Walker Red.  When my Southern Baptist parents arrived to visit they spied the cases on our back porch and I don't think my Daddy has ever fully recovered!

As I contemplate this picture, more and more memories of that summer and others come to mind.

Sandy and Pam Elias were married in the theatre in 1979.  I remember going with Karen Kinney, June Gross, and Hillary Clapp to Bluebell Lodge to wake up Sandy's groomsmen - John Dennis Johnston and Steve Parr (John can often be seen on television as a bad guy, Steve had a role in "All My Children").  Anyway, both of them were naked as jaybirds, but that didn't matter to us;  we just walked into the room and got their butts out of bed!!

After leaving the Playhouse, I went to Europe to teach and married a US Navy man.  We visited New York in 1995 and Bill Anderson invited us to lunch.  When we got to the restaurant, there was Bill, Madonna Byrkland, Jim Woodward and a couple of other Playhouse alums whose names I cannot recall.  Well, Madonna (being Madonna) yelled at me to begin a voice lesson - which I did, much to the chagrin of Husband #2, and then she asked in a very loud voice, "Well, husband of Carol, how does it feel that you two are the only straight people at the table?"  I thought he was going to faint and slide under the table!!!!

One more random memory about this company---when my daughter was born we were on the island of Guam.  I spent the first six months of her life at home with her.  One afternoon I had the television on and was watching "As the World Turns."  I went to the kitchen to heat a bottle for the baby and suddenly heard an extremely familiar voice yelling in anger on the Soap.  I ran into the living room and, sure enough, there was Neil Maffin on my TV!!  Golly bum, you find the strangest things happen when you've been involved with the BHP.

Which brings me to the tale of sitting next to a guy in a bar on Guam and learning he was a graduate of Chadron Teachers' College and had smoked wacky stuff with me at the wedding of Menno and Jenny May Kraii.  Came close to marrying that guy!!
